Supporting Military Families Through the Government Shutdown with Thanksgiving Food Support

Helping the Home Front understands the very real challenges many active-duty military families face, especially when it comes to food insecurity. For families living on a single paycheck, making ends meet can quickly become overwhelming, even in the most stable circumstances.

Through the generosity of our CBN partners, we have been able to provide practical, consistent support through monthly food box distributions on multiple military bases. For the past three years, it has been our honor to serve active-duty military and their families in this tangible way, ensuring they have access to nutritious food during times of need.

In November, due to the government shutdown, distribution lines more than doubled. With paychecks delayed, many military families suddenly found themselves facing uncertainty about how they would put food on the table.

In response, Helping the Home Front was grateful for the opportunity to do more. Alongside our regular food boxes, we distributed an additional box filled with traditional Thanksgiving sides and provided each family with a certificate for a turkey or ham redeemable at a local grocery store.

One military spouse shared how much the support meant to their family:

“We’ve got two little ones and two big ones, and it just kind of takes the pressure off of what we’re going to have. With family not close, we’re kind of on our own to cook. It’s just helpful to know that we can have a nice Thanksgiving meal. With the government shutdown, it absolutely helps.”
